You will need a soft measuring tape (the kind used by tailors). Do not use a rigid ruler or metal measuring tape they do not flex around your body correctly.
Before you measure:
Shoulder
Measured from shoulder point to shoulder point across the back.
Chest / Bust
Fullest part of the chest, tape kept parallel to the ground.
Waist
Natural waist, usually the narrowest part of your torso.
Hip
Fullest part of the hips, approx. 8 inches below the natural waist.
Sleeve Length
From shoulder point to your wrist, arm slightly bent.
Shirt / Kameez Length
From the top of the shoulder (or collar base) straight down.
Trouser / Shalwar Length
From waistband to the hem. Include preferred hem style.
There is an important difference between body measurements and finished garment measurements:
Your actual body dimensions chest, waist, hip, etc. These are what you measure directly on yourself with a tape measure. Use these to compare against a size chart.
The actual dimensions of the finished clothing piece. Garments are always made larger than body measurements to allow for ease of movement and comfort. Always compare body measurements to the size chart.
